Carrefour introduces discount mobile plans in Taiwan

TAIPEI - Carrefour Telecom has expanded its business in Asia by debuting in Taiwan, shaking up the country's already saturated and mature mobile phone market.

Carrefour introduces discount mobile plans in Taiwan
Carrefour Telecom is now targeting the low-to mid-end mobile users who want simple and cheap mobile plans for communicating with family and friends.

Carrefour’s advertising campaign is led by a TVC, created by Leo Burnett Taiwan, depicting two mobile phone characters having a price war in a Carrefour hypermarket over cowboy music. Consumers can pay for Carrefour Telecom services by shopping at Carrefour using their loyalty card and accumulating redemption points.

“We try to make it very transparent and straightforward for people to switch plans, as most telephone plans are complicated,” said AP Lin, executive VP, Leo Burnett Taiwan.

Retail promotion materials for the service are running in the 58 Carrefour hypermarkets in Taiwan, which together have more than four million loyalty card members.

Existing major telcos in Taiwan include Taiwan Telecom, Chung Hwa Telecom and Far Eastern Telecom.

Dentsu is the media agency for Carrefour Telecom’s campaign.
