Emirates highlights colorful local phrases in online-video campaign

GLOBAL - Emirates has launched a lighthearted online campaign featuring its multilingual crew members explaining 29 colorful idioms from a wide range of languages in 15-second videos.

The crew members pronounce and then explain the meaning behind local phrases like "Don't make an elephant out of a fly" (Russian), "You're so pretty it made a bang" (Cantonese, above), "Sweet dumplings rather than flowers" (Japanese), "Your personality is as wide as an ocean" (Korean), "You eat your fingers when you’re finished" (Arabic) and "You're the cat's whiskers" (English). The brand has also posted an outtakes video from the filming sessions.

The agency responsible for the work is StrawberryFrog.

The 'Share a smile' campaign, which also features a microsite, is part of the brand's broader 'Hello tomorrow' platform, launched in 2012, which focuses on inspiring people to explore and connect with each other across cultures and borders.

The full list of languages covered in the series is Arabic, Cantonese, English, French, German, Greek, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish and Turkish.
