Indonesia biggest APAC market for Instagram

Company touts rapid user growth in the region’s third-largest country, as well as increasing brand activity.

Indonesia biggest APAC market for Instagram

Instagram today released new figures showing that Indonesia has become the social platform’s biggest market in Asia-Pacific.

Instagram's monthly active users in Indonesia number 45 million, the company said, which is more than double the 22 million MAUs reported in early 2016.

Living up to their reputation as being early adopters of new technology, Indonesians also produce twice as many Instagram Stories as the global average. Stories launched almost exactly a year ago, and in that time has grown to 250 million MAUs.

Business users of Instagram in Indonesia are also growing, with local online marketplace Blibli.com the first to create a Stories ad. According to Instagram internal figures, the campaign saw a 22-point lift in ad recall, and led to almost 5,000 incremental conversions.

“We’ve a strong local culture of sharing moments that matter to us, so it’s no wonder that Indonesia is among the top Instagram Stories producers in the world,” said Sri Widowati, Indonesia country director at Facebook.

Instagram’s growth across APAC continues rapidly. In March the company reported 16 million users in Japan.
