Pointing to Google’s webpage that tracks what features are available in China, a company spokeswoman confirmed the occurrence but could not elaborate on the nature of the blocks.

However, she noted that service availability fluctuates in China and it is too early to tell whether this blockage will be persistent.

Since its announcement to close its Google.cn domain last week, Google has been closely monitoring its service accessibility to suss out its operational limits in China. Mobile has been a key platform for Google as it sought to gain headway in the market, and its current block is the second setback on mobile Google has experienced in a week.

Last week, mobile operator China Unicom announced it will not provide Google’s search function on its new Android handsets.

Separately, Chinese reports note the web portal Sina is developing its own search engine technology that may replace Google's search on its website.
