The move comes in a bid by the firm to drop its founder’s moniker after Zaid Ibrahim resigned as chairman and senior partner in 2008. He went on to pursue a career in politics.
The network will be the first pan-Southeast Asia organisation of its kind, taking in firms and related service providers in Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta, Ho Chi Minh City, Dubai, Sydney and Melbourne.
Chew Seng Kok, regional managing partner of the Zicolaw network, said that the rebranding effort was a response to a growing number of Zaid Ibrahim clients requesting cross-border deals and representation. He spoke of the increasing strategic and economic importance of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations region (ASEAN) as part of the motivation behind the decision.
The network’s new tagline, “Regional expertise, local grounding” is an attempt to reflect the brand of specialised legal knowledge, bolstered by a broader Southeast Asian awareness, it will offer.
