WWF is embarking on a worldwide search for six ambassadors for its ‘Project Panda’ initiative. The contest is hosted at www.pandaome.com and open to people between the ages of 18 and 40.
The selected people will spend a month learning how to care for the endangered specie in the city of Chengdu, Sichuan Province, and keeping a regular blog writing about the experience.
On 6 September, the top 50 applicants that scored the highest during their month caring for pandas plus ten others selected by a panel of experts from video applications will go through for a public vote.
The expert panel of judges includes Dr Zhang Zhihe (aka Panda Daddy), animal conservation education specialist Sarah Bexell, wild giant panda expert Jiang Zeyin and nurse Abuzhanzi.
The six winners will then each become a world spokesperson for the protection of pandas in the adventure of a lifetime over one year based in the mountains of the Sichuan basin.
The campaign is connected to Sina Weibo, RenRen and Kaixin. The site is equipped with videos, photos and augmented reality games.
