Media Direction was the incumbent on the account. The appointment is on an agency-of-record basis.

According to industry sources, the account is valued at around $8-9 million and the move stems from the luxury car firm seeking a new media agency partner in the market and is also thought to be a part of an alignment with global operations.

MEC currently services Mercedes in its home market in Germany plus other international markets.

Mercedes-Benz has been operating in India for more than 50 years. Presently, its engagement in the market covers local production and importation of cars, commercial vehicle operations, sourcing of auto components and automotive technology research and development.

On the appointment, Debashis Mitra, director of sales and marketing for Mercedes Benz India, said: “We are pleased to have MEC onboard as our media planning and buying agency. We look forward to some great communication solutions emerging out of our partnership. This is also in line with our global media agency alignment.”

“It’s a real pleasure to have a prestigious brand like Mercedes Benz on our client roster,” added Manjiri Kamat, general manager, MEC Mumbai and Bengaluru. “The company has aggressive growth plans for 2010 and we look forward to adding value through our unique approach.”

Separately, MEC recently added Zee Network and Colgate to its roster of clients in India.
