M&C Saatchi Spencer wins Smartone business

Hong Kong mobile carrier Smartone has awarded its creative duties to M&C SaatchiSpencer, Campaign Asia-Pacific has learned.

The client had worked with DDB previously, including a rebranding campaign launched in late 2017.

Following a pitch against unconfirmed competitors, M&C Saatchi Spencer has won a retainer-based contract covering branding, product launches and all integrated communications, activations and promotions, according to CEO Spencer Wong, who joined M&C Saatchi and got his name on the door in Hong Kong last August (see "M&C Saatchi to re-enter Hong Kong under Spencer Wong").

The win is a significant one that has "big implications for the agency in the Hong Kong market,” Wong told Campaign Asia-Pacific. "We are extremely happy to partner with Smartone, a progressive brand with vision.”

Campaign has reached out to DDB for comment.
