800 amateur and professional photographers will individually compete in an action packed 11-hour race around Hong Kong, starting from the base of Hong Kong Polytechnic University, on 3 October.
Each participant has to submit two photos to each of the three assigned themes revealed during set times on the day of the competition.
As only digital single-lens reflex cameras are allowed, participants will be under tremendous pressure to showcase their creativity, endurance and raw photographic skills without the aid of touch-ups or enhancements.
Kevin Kobayashi, president and CEO of Canon Hong Kong, said, “Canon Photo marathon winning photographs should not only exemplify the fundamental principles of good photography, but also exhibit originality and a keen eye for the unnoticed in everyday life.”
Canon will also donate all proceeds from registration fees to Friends of the Earth (HK), which was chosen as the beneficiary organisation as its mission to conserve the environment for future generations echoes Canon’s corporate philosophy of 'Kyosei', which means living together harmoniously for everyone's mutual benefit.
Weber Shandwick Hong Kong is the PR agency for the event.
Hong Kong will be the second stop in this year’s competition series, which will run in nine different markets in Asia, including Taiwan, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, India, Indonesia, and the Philippines during September and October.
