The Gate Shanghai drives off with Volvo S60 account

SHANGHAI - The Gate Shanghai has secured the creative business for the Volvo S60 model in China after a competitive pitch against two other 4A agencies in July, including Arnold, the incumbent global lead creative agency for Volvo.

According to an industry source close to the client, the Volvo S60 is the first locally produced model to be launched in China under the Volvo banner, and is the first launch since the Geely Group completed the acquisition of Volvo worldwide.

Michael Dee, the chairman and CCO of The Gate Greater China, who previously helped to win Volkswagen’s creative account when working for DDB China, commented, “It’s our great honour to have this opportunity to work with Volvo. Our teams have demonstrated passion and quality work throughout the pitch process. The strength of The Gate Shanghai is to put together senior excellent talents and to simplify the internal working process to ensure our talents can focus on delivering outstanding work in a highly efficient way. “

Dee pointed out that this is the first auto client that The Gate has won, as the agency is keen to diversify its client base from finance to other industries. However he declined to provide further details about the launch of the new car in China.

Besides Volvo, The Gate has served other brands such as Philips and Elis since earlier this year.
