KFC's new spicy chicken ad makes hot things cool

Ogilvy's new campaign selling Hot & Spicy chicken proves the simplest ads are often the ones we appreciate the most.

What has Ad Nut learnt today? That KFC's crunchy fried chicken looks convincingly—almost exactly—like a fireball blast. Who knew?

Ad Nut must salute the team at Ogilvy & Mather that made these cool visuals for a new campaign in Hong Kong promoting KFC's Hot & Spicy recipe.

It just goes to prove that the best ads are the ones that need no explanation. Although Ad Nut does appreciate the high-level concept explanation that came with the press release accompanying this ad, just in case we were having a slow day: "The 3 key visuals...seamlessly swaps [sic] out explosions with the real product, photographed under lighting conditions that replicate each of the chosen scenarios."

Sometimes Ad Nut simply prefers pictures to words.

The campaign is launching across over 60 KFC branches in Hong Kong with accompanying print ads, online promotions and outdoor media to follow this week.
