Social media platform Reddit has partnered with OpenAI as part of a mutually beneficial agreement for both platforms.

As part of the partnership, OpenAI will be able to access Reddit’s Data API to bring content from the platform to ChatGPT. This will help train the AI language model to stay up-to-date on recent topics from Reddit users.

Steve Huffman, Reddit co-founder and CEO, said: “Reddit has become one of the internet’s largest open archives of authentic, relevant, and always up-to-date human conversations about anything and everything.

“Including it in ChatGPT upholds our belief in a connected internet, helps people find more or what they’re looking for, and helps new audiences find community on Reddit.”

Reddit will also benefit from the partnership by working with OpenAI to integrate AI-powered features on its platform with access to its large language models. Additionally, OpenAI will now become an advertising partner for Reddit.

Brad Lightcap, OpenAI COO, said: “We are thrilled to partner with Reddit to enhance ChatGPT with uniquely timely and relevant information, and to explore the possibilities to enrich the Reddit experience with AI-powered features.”

Since announcing the partnership, Reddit’s shares have reportedly jumped more than 10%. The social media platform previously signed a similar agreement with Google to allow the tech giant access to its user data.

OpenAI recently announced new updates for ChatGPT last week, which include the ability to recognise objects and images in real time and to identify emotions from visual expressions.
