MTV Asia hunts for social-media insider

KUALA LUMPUR - MTV Asia, a unit of Viacom, has launched a campaign to hunt for the first-ever MTV World Stage Insider, who will be given a 10-day ‘job’ as part of the MTV social-media team.

The chosen candidate will represent fans and provide minute-by-minute updates, videos, tweets, and pictures from MTV World Stage Live, a concert slated for 8 September in Malaysia. The winner will also receive an engagement fee of US$10,000, according to the company.

The campaign targets music fans aged 18 years and above from Southeast Asia, who already have an existing blog and an extended social presence. Ideally, candidates will have attended one of the MTV World Stage Live concerts in the last four years.

The campaign was launched through MTV Asia’s Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts on 1 August and will close on 19 August. The result will be announced on 26 August, with the 'job' running from 30 August to 9 September.

Applicants are required to submit a creative social-media resume in a two-minute video or blog entry, showing what makes them the right candidate for the role, using any social-media platform and the tags #worldstagemy and #insidews.

Sian Ju Tan, vice president of MTV & Comedy Central Brands at Viacom International Media Networks Asia, noted that as the event celebrates its fifth anniversary in the region this year, the company is upping the ante with its fan engagement.

“We’re looking for the MTV World Stage Insider who possesses the stamina of a Spartan, as it’ll be 10 days of hard, but very fun, work!” he added.

Apart from the engagement fee, the MTV World Stage Insider will get to “takeover” MTV Asia's social-media channels, including Twitter and Instagram; having their blog reposted on MTV World Stage Live in Malaysia 2013’s official site; as well as a backstage pass to the event.

Performers at the event include Robin Thicke, Far East Movement, EXO and Joe Flizzow. Taking place at Surf Beach at Sunway Lagoon, the event is expected to attract a live audience of around 15,000. Sponsors include Hong Leong Bank, Sunway Group, Xpax and Suzuki. The event is supported by broadcast partner Astro and local radio partners.
