The latest pledge will bring the world’s largest beverage company’s investment in the country to $400 million, since its return in 1994.
In a visit to Ho Chi Minh City last week, chairman and CEO Muhtar Kent congratulated Vietnam on “the creation of a more positive investment environment and high stable economic growth in Q1 and Q2 of 2009” in the context of the current global economic crisis.
Kent added: “Vietnam is a very important growth market to Coca-Cola. We are very optimistic about the future of our business here. We look forward to continuing to play a key role in the development of the economy and the community.”
With over 1,500 direct employees in Vietnam, the beverage company is indirectly creating more than 15,000 local jobs and has bottling plants in Ha Tay, Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh City.
Coca-Cola brands in Vietnam include Coca-Cola, Sprite, Fanta, diet Coke, Schweppes, and new products such as Minute Maid Splash juice, Joy bottled drinking water and Samurai energy drink.
In March this year, Coca-Cola had made a similar pledge to inject a further $2 billion in the next three years to boost production, sales and marketing in China.
