Grey Malaysia crafts AR showcase for Malaysian property site

KUALA LUMPUR - Grey Group Malaysia has crafted a 3D augmented reality (AR) property showcase for property website and magazine, iProperty.com Malaysia.

The offering was demonstrated by Sam Chan, general manager of G2 Direct Interactive to property developers and prospective property owners at the recent iProperty.com Expo, held at Kuala Lumper Convention Centre on 17 June 2011.

The AR application is the first 3D property experience that can be viewed by anyone in Malaysia. The print advertisement on the first page of the iProperty Malaysia magazine June 2011 issue features a floor plan which comes to life in 3D on screen when reflected onto a webcam or smartphone camera. Viewers are able to zoom in and out of the floor plan to view each room more clearly than it would be to see it merely on print.

“AR technology is extremely relevant to the property sector," Chan said. "Potential buyers are not only able to view floor plans more thoroughly, but also change wall colours and interior decoration to view the property in an interactive way compared to a print ad. This will bring potential buyers one step closer to making the decision before calling the sales representative or visiting the showroom."

Grey Group Malaysia has future plans with iProperty Malaysia to develop the application for viewers to be able to open doors and enter the rooms to get a closer look, change the interior wall colours and designs, or play interactive games.

“We wanted to give our customers and consumers a different experience in understanding more about the layout and design of their desired property via augmented reality. You can almost say that you are in the minds of the designers as the artist impression is brought to life, virtually that is,” says Shaun Di Gregorio, CEO, iProperty.com Group.

iProperty Group is listed in Australia and currently operates property portals in Malaysia, Singapore and Hong Kong. It has recently received foreign-investment funding and has entered into an agreement to buy two of the three largest property portals in Indonesia.
