WSJ revamps its online offering

NEW YORK - The Wall Street Journal has updated its global online presence to offer expanded content and features, as well as a broader range of opportunities for advertisers.

The reworked WSJ.com will reportedly allow users greater ease of navigation and access to a wider range of analysis and information. While certain content will be available exclusively to subscribers, non-subscribers will be able to preview a limited section.

Free content areas will include general news, politics, personal finance, sports and travel among others, as well as that from the recently launched WSJ lifestyle magazine. The site will offer expanded content a range of categories including US and world news, politics, small business, personal finance, technology, and lifestyle.

In addition, a visual and text-driven tool, Newsreel, will aid navigation by highlighting the principal stories in each major section. The site will also feature a new video player, photo slide show viewer and interactive graphics.

The upgrade follows a similar recent move by the FT to improve its FTChinese.com site with the introduction of additional video content and a date-linked archive.
