McCann and PHD tipped to win Disney Movies’ creative, digital and media pitch

HONG KONG - Walt Disney Studio Motion Pictures International is believed to have chosen McCann Worldgroup Hong Kong as its new creative and digital agency partner, and PHD Hong Kong as its media agency partner, effective from March.

The client called large-scale separate pitches for creative, media, digital and PR accounts in mid January.

It remains unclear which agencies joined the creative, digital and PR pitches, or which agency won the PR pitch, but it is understand that Maxus, Carat, PHD and the incumbent agency Perfect Ad attended the media pitch.

Perfect Ad, InterContinental Film Distribution (HK)'s in-house agency, has been handling Walt Disney Movies’ marketing and distribution in Hong Kong for 18 years.

Wing Ng, GM, film distribution of InterContinental Film Distribution (HK) confirmed that their partnership with Walt Disney Movies would end at the end of February.

One undisclosed source close to the news said that the account is "very interesting" adding that in the past, InterContinental Film Distribution focused mainly on the distribution side on the business and used conventional marketing channels like TV, OOH, online and print.

The client now wants to engaged with 4A agencies for joint ventures and business partnerships with brands in Hong Kong.

Walt Disney Studios has also brokered films for DreamWorks Live Action and Marvel starting from this year. The company produced an extensive PR event at iSQUARE Shopping Mall in Tsim Sha Tsui last Tuesday to showcase to its advertisers and new agency partners upcoming blockbuster line-ups including Cars 2 and Toy Story 2 for 2011.
