Coca-Cola charges Grey Healthcare HK for its 'running fun' project

HONG KONG - Grey Healthcare Hong Kong has won the Coca-Cola 'running fun' marketing project, after a competitive pitch with several undisclosed agencies.

Coca-Cola Hong Kong has been organising this running race for eight years, and is this year expanding the event. The distance has been increased from 8.8 kilometres to 10 kilometres, and the organisers are hoping to see 2000 participants, up from 900 last year. The event will be held on 18 September at Wu Ka Sha Youth Village in Ma On Shan.

Grey Healthcare Hong Kong says it has also helped Amway to organise its largest event — the Amway Nutrilite Health Run — in both 2007 and 2008. The agency partnered with a sports consultant in the previous events, who then referred it to Coca-Cola, one of the key reasons it was able to win the project.

Dorothy Yung, director of client services of the agency explained that while in the past, runs in HK are purely “run”, Grey and Coca-Cola are hoping to inject excitement, while balancing professionalism and fun.

This year, live music, marching bands, cheering team performances, a 'Dressing fun' competition and catwalk (which participants are encouraged to design outfits in Coca-Cola elements), and free soft drinks will accompany the event. 

Grey will be in charge of the promotion of the event as well as logistics, and PR events. THe brand and agency are already proactively reaching out to the athlete and cross-country running teams among schools as well as running clubs in Hong Kong.
