8TV partners Netbiscuits to launch mobile portals for TV programmes

KUALA LUMPUR - 8TV, a station under the new media arm of Media Prima's Alt Media, has partnered Netbiscuits to develop mobile web portals for its programmes to target 3G subscribers in Malaysia.

The partnership enables 8TV to tap on the growing number of 3G subscribers in the country, where growth is expected to hit 10.6 million in the next two years. Mobile phone users can now view made for mobile only content from Media Prima properties.

“Imagine being able to download and watch news and entertainment programmes on something as portable and ubiquitous as your smart phone. Consumers can now watch their favorite content anytime, anywhere on the mobile. By using Netbiscuits’ mobile technologies, we are providing viewers with easy access to their favourite television stars, programme listings, shows and more,” said Paul Moss, general manager of platforms, technology and new business at Alt Media.

“Mobile phones are fast becoming the center of digital entertainment so it is a natural progression for 8TV to get their television content on the mobile. Our technology helps 8TV to develop and maintain their WAP site while ensuring compatibility with more than 5,000 models of mobile devices,” added Joerg Krahnert, director of business development in Asia-Pacific for Netbiscuits.
