Dentsu launches ";Dcloud” Cloud Platform to support US$300 million Emoji service

TOKYO - Dentsu, D2 Communications and Bijutsu Shuppan Networks have developed a cloud platform named ";Dcloud” to provide support for "Emoji" (emoticons and animated characters) across Android and iPhone mobile services.

;Dcloud software development kits for Android and iPhone application providers worldwide are already available free of charge.

According to Dentsu, the Emoji market in Japan alone exceeds US$300 million and services equipped with it, such as Deco-mail (an email service with emoticons, owned by NTT Docomo) are used by over 70 per cent of young women in Japan and DecoMarket, a smartphone application allows users to buy emoticons has had over 700,000 Android Market downloads in Japan since its launch in November 2010.

The :DCloud service is intended to allow purchased emoticons to be automatically synchronised across the user's mobile devices. The platform also allows new business opportunities to developers adn content providers who hold rights to the emoticons.
