Tencent introduces heart-warming QQ anniversary campaign

Chinese Internet giant Tencent has launched a heart-warming campaign for its massively popular instant messaging service QQ, in celebration of the company’s 12th anniversary.

Tencent introduces heart-warming QQ anniversary campaign

Launched in February 1999, QQ was the founding product of Tencent and has become an integral part of the daily lives of ordinary Chinese.

The commercial titled 'Mother', focuses on how QQ helps people connect and communicate.

It tells the story of a strained relationship between a senior high school student and his mother.

The young man soon graduates and leaves for New York to study at Columbia University where he starts to miss his mother. His mother back in China, who barely knows how to type, tries to use QQ to chat with her son, also the only contact on her QQ list.

The commercial was launched on CCTV, pulling at the heart strings of millions of Chinese in a similar situation.
