BEIJING - There's still a palpable sense of shock following Liu Xiang's pull-out from the 110m hurdles, though early signs are that his sponsors will stand by him.

Coca-Cola, Nike and Visa, all long-term sponsors of the athlete, have rushed to release pledges of allegiance to the athlete, with a Visa spokesman adding: “He will always remain a great Chinese icon and a friend of Visa.”
 
In South Korea, there’s plenty of excitement about swimmer Park Tae Hwan (pictured), who picked up the nation’s first swimming gold. SK Telecom and Kookmin Bank both agreed endorsement deals with the 18-year-old ahead of the Games, and both brands have begun leveraging the association in ads following his triumph.
 
Meanwhile, now that the pool events are over, Speedo has finally been knocked off top spot on our table of brand performance. Adidas takes the lead, with Nike lurking in third.
