Initiative Thailand wins Big C and Le Meridian accounts

BANGKOK - Thailand's second-largest hypermarket chain, Big C Supercentre, has appointed Initiative as its media communications partner following a competitive five-way shootout between Mindshare, FCB, Maxus and incumbent Dentsu.

Big C, which competes against Carrefour and Tesco Lotus, will be hoping to grow sales by at least 6 per cent from the 61.6 billion baht (US$1.8 billion) it earned in 2007.

To achieve its target, the Thai retailer would be banking on its marketing and new store openings and has earmarked 12 more stores by the end of this year to compliment its current stable of 64 stores. Initiative will begin work for Big C in January 2009.

In addition, Initiative Bangkok has also picked up Le Meridian Hotel’s media account in Thailand following a series of presentations - having already secured the hotel’s media business in Singapore as well.
