Cannes awards: Titanium Grand Prix for Dentsu's 'Sound of Honda'

CANNES - Dentsu Tokyo's haunting tribute to F1 driver Aryton Senna won the festival's prestigious Titanium Grand Prix, but Clemenger BBDO Wellington was the only other Asia-Pacific agency to strike Gold during the final awards ceremony of the 2014 festival.

WPP was named Holding Company of the Year for the fourth consecutive year, while Ogilvy & Mather claimed the title Network of the Year for the third year in a row.

The region came up empty in the Innovation category despite five shortlisted entries, and besides Dentsu Tokyo's Titanium Grand Prix won nothing else in the Titanium & Integrated Awards.

The news was even worse in Branded Content & Entertainment, where work from the region was shut out of the Gold level (the jury awarded no Grand Prix), and only six out of the 66 total Lions (9 per cent) went to Asia-Pacific agencies.

Other than Dentsu, which also won Gold in Film, Clemenger BBDO Wellington was the region's only other big winner. The agency won three Gold Lions for work on behalf of the New Zealand Transport Agency: two in Film Craft for the hilarious but discomfiting 'Blazed', in which three kids mimic the adults who drive them around after smoking marijuana, and one in Film for 'Mistakes', which stopped time to dramatise the dangers of excessive speed. The Film Craft category did not yield a Grand Prix winner.

For the record, Asia-Pacific work won 13 per cent of the total awards in Film and 11 per cent in Film Craft.
