Apia selects DDB as agency of record in Australia

MELBOURNE - Australian insurance firm Apia has handed its integrated communications account, worth a reported A$15 million, to DDB in Melbourne, following a pitch believed to have included local shops Boiler Room and Campaign Palace.

The appointment by the senior citizen-focused insurance company follows its split with incumbent Clemenger Harvie Edge (CHE) at the end of last year.

According to a spokesperson for DDB, forthcoming work on the account will include above-the-line advertising, direct marketing, promotional and digital development.

Apia, which is a subsidiary of financial services corporation Suncorp Group, recently restructured its marketing division following Suncorp’s acquisition of Australian insurance firm Promina in March 2007.

Apia’s below-the-line marketing account has been handled by DDB subsidiary, Rapp, for the past 18 months.
