12 days of Christmas: Top five promotions of 2010

Announced in May, Ogilvy Worldwide promoted Paul Heath to the newly created role of worldwide director for Ogilvy & Mather Advertising. Remaining in Hong Kong, Heath took on his new responsibilities in addition to his primary role as CEO of Asia-Pacific.

Looking to replicate Asia’s success, in his new role, Heath set out to assemble a global executive committee consisting of regional heads David Mayo, president of Ogilvy & Mather Advertising Asia-Pacific, Hugh Baillie, chief executive of Ogilvy Advertising UK, Simon Pearce, managing director of Ogilvy Advertising New York and Fernando Musa, advertiser supervisor of Ogilvy Advertising Brazil.

Stephen Li took over from Joost Dop as MEC Asia-Pacific CEO after Dop announced his decision to step down from the position.

The announcement, released in June this year, marked the start of a seven-month transition with Li set to fully take over the position on 15 December.

Li joined MEC in 2006 as COO of its global solutions division, based in Singapore. He took over the reigns for South and Southeast Asia shortly after. Previous experience also include roles at Batey and Lowe.

When P&G's head of marketing for Asia Maile Carnegie announced her departure from the role in Singapore during July, India marketing head Sumeet Vohra was set to take over as chief marketing officer for Asia, based in Singapore.

Vohra joined P&G in 1992. According to the Times of India, a major highlight of Vohra's tenure in India was leading the marketing war that broke out between P&G and its rival Hindustan Unilever following P&G's entry into the laundry detergent market with Tide Naturals. He was also instrumental in bringing Olay to the country and creating a new premium segment in skincare.

As part of an internal assignment, Carnegie headed to Australia to head Australia and New Zealand's operations as general manager.

Richard Dunmall scooped his promotion from VP for Greater Asia-Pacific and the Americas to the newly created role of VP for global agencies and accounts in November. The move sees Dunmall relocate to New York from his current base in Hong Kong.

In his new role, Dunmall will report to global corporate VP Carolyn Everson in assuming responsibility for driving revenue with the largest advertisers and key advertising agencies globally.

Whispers said that Dunmall’s promotion came at the same time as his name was being linked to the search for an Asia-Pacific CEO at Mediabrands.

Announced in November, Isobar made the decision to promote Jean Lin to CEO of Asia-Pacific, with immediate effect. Prior to her promotion, Lin was global chief strategy officer.

Back in 1999, Lin founded digital agency Wwwins Consulting Taiwan, which was consolidated under Aegis Media’s Isobar in Greater China and rebranded as Wwwins Isobar in May this year. Lin took on the regional leadership role in addition to her existing global duties.

She started her career in account servicing with Ogilvy & Mather in her native Taiwan, later becoming director of training and development for Greater China.

Other noteworthy promotions this year include DDB's Matt Eastwood and Dick van Mottman elevated to chief creative officer of DDB New York and CEO and president of DDB China Group respectively, Ian Thubron stepping up to the newly-created role of Greater China group president at TBWA, Yahoo's Ken Mandel stepping up as VP of ad sales and marketplace, John Hadfield promoted to CEO of BBH Asia-Pacific, Matthew Fanshaw becoming MD of Asia-Pacific at Euro RSCG and Group M's Andrew Meaden stepping up as regional director for Asia-Pacific.
