Snapchat to set up its first office in India

Snap, the parent company of Snapchat, is reportedly setting up its first office in India, amid the fast growth of daily active users (DAU) in its sixth-biggest market.

Snap chief strategy officer Jared Grusd told Indian newspaper Business Standard in an interview that the tech firm’s local team in Mumbai will focus on expanding partnerships with media companies and establishing an engaged community of content creators and users, while also servicing local advertisers.

With a huge population base and improving internet connections, India has become a fast-growing market for Snapchat. According to Grusd, the amount of DAUs in India soared 40% year-on-year in the second quarter of 2019.

Overall, the app added 13 million DAUs in Q2, bringing its total global number to 203 million.

Earlier this year, the company launched eight new languages, including four Indian languages. The report said an additional five languages are expected to be introduced by the end of 2019.
