Wong reports to SCMP CEO Hui Kuok. Her new role includes research and new product development, creative, PR, promotions. events and strategic brand management.

Michael McComb resigned from his role as director of marketing and communications in November last year after only one year in the position. Wong said her role as marketing director is slightly different from his.

Wong has spent the last 14 years working at Disney in a variety of roles including VP of marketing Asia Pacific for the theatrical division, followed by VP of global marketing strategy and planning for the theme parks and finally VP of alliance marketing for Disneyland USA.

“One major lesson I learnt at Disney was that innovative technology drives and demands innovative content and a strong brand. Disney knew this and grew stronger with technological changes in the entertainment industry. These are basically the same factors that will help drive the business forward at SCMP,” Wong said.

“Contrary to the general trend of newspaper readership decline, our overall readership is increasing. I like to think of SCMP as having the wisdom and heritage of a 107-year-old veteran with the renewed energy and passion of a start up entrepreneur,” she added.

SCMP Group recently set up a new marketing services division headed by assistant director Sylvia Lee. One of their latest projects is the launch of a custom published book for the City of Dreams called 'Macau Unexpected' in celebration of their first anniversary on 1 June.

“Rather than using a traditional celebratory approach, we chose to position the City of Dreams as the visionary leader who changes the way people see Macau instead. This approach creates relevance to the reader, and at the same time adds depth to the client’s corporate image,” said Lee.
