LG CMO departs amid restructuring measures

SEOUL – LG Electronics’ Seoul-based global chief marketing officer Dermot Boden is understood to have left the company amid restructuring measures following the appointment of founding family member Koo Bon-joon as chief executive last September.

With its mobile business struggling, the company’s new management is reportedly seeking to focus on the company’s manufacturing capabilities while scaling back investment in marketing.

A major part of this strategy is the establishment of the Business Innovation Office, which Koo will oversee. The division will be responsible for raising the profile of LG’s core competencies.

The Global Marketing Division has been renamed as the Global Marketing Office and is expected to continue to promote the LG brand and strengthen subsidiaries’ sales.

Boden was LG’s first chief marketing officer and first non-Korean senior executive.

LG could not be reached for comment on the developments at press time.
