Coca-Cola Singapore launches "Silent Caroling" initiative

SINGAPORE – Coca-Cola has teamed up with the Singapore Association for the Deaf for its 'Silent Carolers' Christmas campaign that aims to teach Singaporeans basic sign language and raise awareness of the deaf community.

Coca-Cola Singapore has produced videos of local celebrities performing songs such as Jingle Bells, Winter Wonderland, and Silver Bells in sign language.

The celebrities include local artiste Selena Tan, Channel NewsAsia producer/presenter Steven Chia, popular blogger Mr Brown, as well as food celebrity KF Seetoh.

The videos will be pumped through Coca-Cola’s social media channels on Facebook and Youtube in December, and will also encourage viewers to learn sign language. Viewers will be pointed to a separate instructional video that teaches basic phrases such as “Hello”, “How are you”, and “Thank you” in sign language.

To spread the message to Singaporeans in the week leading up to Christmas, Coca-Cola Singapore will deploy carolers to sing silently in sign language every night from 21 to 24 December.

“Coca-Cola has always been a catalyst for bringing people together,” said Gill McLaren, general manager, Coca-Cola Singapore. “We are glad to have the opportunity to bring some our friends together to raise awareness for the deaf community during the season of love and joy.”

“Helping society reach out to the deaf is a priceless Christmas gift,” said Judy Lim, executive director, SADeaf.
