Over 300 senior media executives, editors, journalists and industry affiliates from all over the region joined the awards dinner. Mr. Michael Forsythe, Senior Reporter of Bloomberg News Beijing and Mr. David Barboza, Shanghai Business Correspondent of The New York Times attended the event as special guests in the panel discussion, moderated by Professor Rusty Todd.

The panel focused on recent coverage of China's leadership by the two organizations, which in
the case of the New York Times won a Pulitzer Prize for 2012.

This year the awards saw a record-breaking number of entries region-wide, with 653 entries vying in 17
categories among English and Chinese regional, local print or digital publications all across Asia.

The entries were evaluated by over 100 expert judges worldwide under the stewardship of Head Judge,
Judith Clarke, the associate professor in the Department of Journalism at Hong Kong Baptist University.

The judges comprised journalists, editors, columnists and designers from leading publications around the
world, as well as notable academics from the media departments of prestigious universities.

Mr. David E. Smith, the Chairman of SOPA, added, “A record-breaking number of entries have been
received this year from across Asia. They reflect the vibrancy and diversity of journalism across Asia while providing interesting insights about how the industry is evolving. The entries also showcase the high quality of editorial content being produced across Asia which is increasingly global standard.”

The SOPA 2013 Awards for Editorial Excellence is supported by Invest Hong Kong - Gold Sponsor, and
Hong Kong High Technology Limited as the Supporting Sponsor. The Asia Media Journal is the Media partner for the second year in a row, Grand Hyatt Hong Kong the official Hotel partner and Golin Harris as
