The appointment comes on the heels of the restructuring of the agency's strategy, branded content and social media divisions - combining them to form a broader strategic community which Cookson will oversee.

Previously, Cookson was director of OMD Fuse, the agency's branded content arm, for three years after relocating from Auckland where she was managing partner of ZenithOptimedia.

“Her appointment fits with our commitment to delivering strategic advice including effective engagement strategies for our clients. This restructure solidifies an impressive strategic resource at OMD Melbourne with a diverse skill set that is capable of adding value across a broad range of traditional and new media areas," said Steve Sinha, managing director at OMD Melbourne.

OMD Melbourne's clients include Mazda, Fonterra Brands Australia, Roadshow Films and Entertainment, Dulux, Sensis and BUPA.
