Move and win roundup: MediaCom, Weber Shandwick, BBH, ESPN, more

A weekly roundup of people moves and account news worth noting.

PEOPLE MOVES

MediaCom Vietnam promoted Anand Krishnan, currently general manager, to managing director. He succeeds former MD Lam Le, who will be relocating to Australia. Krishnan joined MediaCom in 2013.

Weber Shandwick appointed Uzz Taufek as senior vice president, digital strategy, Southeast Asia, based in Singapore. He most recently led the digital arm of Leo Burnett and ARC Worldwide and has experience at Dna360, J Walter Thompson and BBDO Proximity.

WE Communications announced two regional APAC promotions. Emma Richards is now VP, regional technology lead, and Shefali Srinivas is VP, regional health lead. Both will be responsible for driving expansion of the agency’s technology and health portfolios across the region.

BBH hired Faraaz Marghoob as planning director to head the agency’s strategic brand consultancy ZAG and planning for UOB. He was most recently joint head of planning at Ogilvy Singapore.

Impact Radius, which provides digital marketing and affiliate solutions, announced its expansion into Asia Pacific with the opening of an office in Sydney and the appointment of Daniel Karlsson as managing director.

IPG Mediabrands appointed Melissa Fein as CEO of Initiative Australia. She was previously CEO of Ensemble. 

Williams Lea Tag appointed Akihiko Kubo as Japan representative director. He was previously the first local president and then chairman of Ogilvy & Mather Group Japan, and also has experience at Weber Shandwick and McCann Erickson.

TSA (Total Sports Asia) appointed Ed Sanderson as vice president of business development based in Kuala Lumpur. His experience includes working on the London Olympics and three years in Macau on the opening of the Venetian Macau Resort Hotel.

ESPN appointed Joyee Biswas as head of Southeast Asia. Biswas will be based in Singapore and reports to Mike Morisson, VP and managing director, APAC in Shanghai. Other new appointments announced by the network: Kelly Cooke takes on the expanded role of general manager, ESPN North Asia; Marc Mallett leads ESPN’s advertising efforts across Asia as the new director of Sponsorship and ad sales, ESPN APAC. 

WINS AND DEALS

Ikea Singapore appointed The Hoffman Agency as agency of record following a pitch. The agency will provide a full suite of strategic counsel and public relations support to the furniture retailer.

Australian Unity appointed Penso to manage brand strategy, creative and, in partnership with Atomic 212, media. Australian Unity is a healthcare, financial services, and independent and assisted living organisation.

PT Puncak Finansial Utama named J. Walter Thompson Jakarta as agency of record for ecommerce company CekAja.com following a competitive pitch against nine other agencies. The agency will be tasked with creating integrated and multi-phase branding campaigns across digital and offline channels.
