Digital happenings this week from VW, XM, Google and more

A roundup of the latest digital people moves, account wins, pitches and developments across the Asia-Pacific region.

In a law suit originally filed on 11 November 2011, Singapore Press Holdings (SPH) has accused Yahoo of reproducing its content to drive traffic, "free-riding on the skill, labour and effort of SPH's authors" and investment in news gathering and journalism. A counter-suit was filed on 13 December, with Yahoo denying the infringement, claiming it had acted in the public interest.

Ad network Innity has become a certified vendor for Google's real-time bidding platform DoubleClick Ad Exchange. The certification will enable Innity to provide more effective media planning and buying, better control over ad spend, improve targeting and reach a wider audience in Asia. 

Malaysia's The Edge Financial Daily had launched its Financial Daily iPad app. A duplicate of the print version, the app sets out to reach new readers both locally, especially those from the East coast of Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak, and internationally. The Edge Publications is expected to launch its other titles digitally soon.

Volkswagen has launched the first phase of its 'VW SG' Apple iOS app to activate the augmented reality component of its new print campaign, created by Tribal DDB. The app, serving to enhance the showroom experience for customers, enables users to explore model features and book a test drive. 

Manny Nepomuceno has been appointed as digital director at Proximity Philippines. He joins from Campaigns & Grey with previous experience at Netbooster Asia in charge of CRM and Web Analytics. Nepomuceno is also the founder of telco-neutral organisation MobileMondays Manila organising network sessions for mobile marketing professionals. 

XM Asia-Pacific has appointed digital veteran Vince Lui as MD to help drive the company's expansion in the region. Lui was most recently managing partner of XM's consulting unit in the region. Prior to joining XM, he was a senior associate with Ion Global.

Hristo Cui, previously assistant VP of digital plannnig, has been promoted to GM of digital at Carat China. In this newly created role, Cui will take responsibility for leading the agency's development in digital. Currently holding over 13 years experience, Cui joined Carat in 2009 on the Nokia account.
