Capella invites you to look beyond the ordinary at their hotels

Capella Hotels and Resorts have marked their recent win at the Travel + Leisure’s World’s Best Awards 2024 with a new film directed by Singaporean filmmaker Daniel Marjan.

The luxury hotel brand, which has claimed the top prize for the second year in a row, offers a cinematic tribute that diverges from typical hospitality advertising.

The film, shot at Capella’s Sydney property, delves into the essence of the brand’s philosophy, weaving together tradition, discovery, and a unique touch of the 'unexpected' for each guest. The narrative follows a protagonist who embodies the role of the visionary behind the hotel, guiding viewers through the story of Capella’s focus on the art of hospitality.

Australian director of photography Jake Ward brings the hotel to life, capturing various aspects of the property while evoking themes of memory and inspiration. Each scene is designed to reflect the attention to detail that has earned Capella its reputation.

Capella Hotels and Resorts operate seven locations across the Asia-Pacific region, with plans for further global expansion.

Campaign's take: It's nice to see a film evoke a passion for travel and wanderlust, moving beyond just showcasing hotel visuals to form a storytelling narrative about exploration. The properties that are featured in the film are visually stunning, surrounded by nature, light, and beautiful design, making you want to get lost in them. Similar to other luxury hotels in this space—such as Kimpton—Capella is known for placing emphasis on personal curation. Each location is designed by prominent architects, blending nature, history, and attention to detail to create a unique experience for guests. This film leans into this. There are brief glimpses of traditional hotel elements like bedding and care, but the music and visuals convey a deeper narrative—encouraging viewers to discover something within the hotel's walls. While this approach might not resonate with everyone—particularly those seeking a straightforward practical depiction of their stay—it'll be sure to flutter the hearts of those who are waiting to uncover their next adventure. It’s worth noting that there is also a director’s cut, which differs from the brand video and can be accessed here.
