Cannes winners: Textbook-by-SMS campaign wins Grand Prix for the Philippines

CANNES - DDB DM9JaymeSyfu of the Philippines won the country's first-ever Grand Prix, OMD Australia was named Media Agency of the Year and Asia-Pacific agencies accepted an additional 16 Gold Lions during the week's second awards ceremony, which included the Innovation, Media, Mobile and Outdoor categories.

Cannes winners: Textbook-by-SMS campaign wins Grand Prix for the Philippines

In the Grand Prix-winning campaign ,'TXTBKS', telco company Smart Communications and DDB DM9JaymeSyfu of Makati City eased the backpack burden of young students by converting textbook content into SMS-sized chunks, loading those SMS-based textbooks onto SIM cards and delivering the SIM cards to students. As feature phones are common in the country, the scheme not only eliminated the need to carry heavy books but also proved engaging for the students.

Gold Lions went to agencies from Australia (DDB Sydney, Leo Burnett Sydney, McCann Melbourne), China (JWT Beijing), India (Taproot India Mumbai), Indonesia (Hakuhodo Indonesia Jakarta), Japan (Aqua Dentsu Tokyo, Party Tokyo), the Philippines (JWT Manila), Singapore (Ogilvy & Mather Singapore, McCann Worldgroup Singapore) and Thailand (Initiative Bangkok).
