In total, the region won two Gold Lions, two Silver Lions and three Bronze Lions out of a total of 28 awards given out for the Creative Data category. No Grand Prix was given out for the category this year.
One Gold creative data lion went to Leo Burnett Sydney for 'Run that town' on behalf of the Australian Bureau of Statistics' Census. To get Australians more involved with census data the agency created a mobile game in which the player could take control of any Australian town. The towns were created using real census data.
The other Gold Lion was earned by Dentsu, Dentsu Tec and Rhizomatiks for 'Reviving legends' for the Japan Sport Council to honour Tokyo's National Stadium on 31 May 2014, its final day. For the event, the team brought back legendary athletes by tracing their great performances and using the data to reenact their great moments on the field using AR, camera motion, lasers and projection mapping. The initiative, reminiscent of last year's big winner 'Sound of Senna' also by Dentsu, won additional Silver and a Bronze Lions in the category.
Asia-Pacific also scored half the Innovation Lions awarded - four out of eight. The ideas that won were Baidu's Smart Chopsticks; M&C Saatchi Sydney and Optus' Clever Buoy; Saatchi & Saatchi Sydney and Luxottica's Penny the Pirate; and Grey Group Singapore's Life Saving Dot on behalf of Talwar Bindi.
The Grand Prix Innovation Lion was awarded to What3Words London for their mapping project, 3 Words to Address the World.
