UPDATE: Malaysia Airlines staff welcome tourists with flash mob

KUALA LUMPUR - Saturday 14 January saw Malaysia Airlines (MAS) perform a flash mob at the arrival hall of KL International Airport to strengthen its presence on social media.

Some 200 participants from MAS, their family and friends as well as the airlines’ partner companies participated in the 10-minute flash mob, entitled ‘Missing you’, choreographed by local dance professional Pat Ibrahim, who worked on renowned musicals such as Puteri Gunung Ledang the Musical and P.Ramlee the Musical.

A video of the flash mob is expected to be uploaded onto the airlines’ Youtube, Facebook pages and Twitter account soon. Several videos of the flash mob are already available on Youtube, having collectively gained more than 15,000 views at press time.

These videos have received some negative comments, with some saying the performance was not professional enough, comparing it to similar performances at Singapore's Changi Airport in May 2010 and at Dubai Airport last year. A Youtube user also commented that it has “nothing to be proud of”, while another user said the performance was weird and that it was like a show by secondary school kids.

Nevertheless, some netizens said it was entertaining and hope to see more performances like this. Some even volunteered to participate in the next performance.

The flash mob started with MAS’ theme song We fly, followed by several songs of different languages, such as Janet Jackson’s Miss You Much by a female singer, Rahim Maarof’s Istana Menanti by a male singer, a dance performance on Hindi song Aankhen Khuli and a group of Chinese tourists singing Ritchie Ren’s Lang Hua Yi Duo Duo.

The flash mob was concluded by the songs Rindu and Balik Kampung, performed by five MAS cabin crew.
