THE PHILIPPINES - Nescafé has tapped into the Filipino love of song, and friends, with a Facebook app that creates personalised 'Videoke' (karaoke in The Philippines) slideshows.

The app, 'Youmeoke' (a videoke of you and me) was developed by Publicis Manila. It allows users to create video montages of themselves and their friends, from photos drawn from Facebook. The animated slideshow plays along to the lyrics and background track of their song of choice.

MRM Philippines manages the overall digital duties for Nescafé Phillipines.

Launched on 5 January, the Facebook app aims to fill the gap and connect with the online community, Joaquim Laurel, digital director at Publicis Manila told Campaign.

"Nescafe has been connecting with people offline. As the Nescafe Facebook page is there, we use it to connect with the people online, build up the relationships and the brand image, while encouraging the engagement between Facebook users," he added.

To be run for a month, the app targets Nescafe fans and the general public on Facebook to encourage the engagement between the people and their friends. Despite not having other promotions, the app attracted hundreds of users and some 600 videos were produced within the first five days.
