Here is the week's round-up of the latest gadgets and reviews. Powered by Stuff Magazine.

GADGET UPDATE powered by Stuff: Sony, Altec Lansing, Acer and more

Sony's tablet confirmed by CEO
Remember the Sony VAIO tablet rumoured earlier this year? We called it the S1 then. And Sony grand fromage Howard Stringer has just set the rumour cart rolling again by confirming a Honeycomb (Android 3.0) tablet will hit the shops before summer is through.

iPad 3 to feature E Ink-LCD hybrid screen?

The Apple iPad 3 may have a hybrid LCD E Ink display, if a patent filed in October 2009 and revealed publicly today, goes into production. The system will automatically recognise what it's displaying and change the screen display to suit. So when reading a book the E Ink display will be activated, with a backlight if needed.

New video! LG Optimus 3D

So LG's pipped everyone to the post by launching the world's first 3D smartphone. Much to the disappointment of some, this doesn't mean you'll be able to send text messages in the third dimension. It does mean you get to watch videos and play games in 3D - you can even create your own Avatar rivalling 3D video on its dual cameras. Best of all, you don't need the face furniture.

Altec Lansing Octiv 650 blasts out

That mantelpiece looking a little bare in your oh-so-quiet lounge? How about a shiny new 2.1 speaker dock for your iPhone or iPod? The Altec Lansing Octiv 650 crams into its compact form a mighty 4-inch down-firing subwoofer and two 3-inch speakers for impressively loud sound from such a small box. But that’s not all that impresses. Altec Lansing is also offering apps free to download from the App Store that let you turn your iPhone into a full graphic equalizer.

SteadyCam Pro app takes the wobble out of iPhone videos

The iPhone 4 video camera gives impressive results – but our shaky human hands can render the results a bit bumpily. The whizz kids at Midnox have released SteadyCam Pro – free to trial and £1.79 to buy on the App Store - that uses advanced signal processing algorithms to correct for rolling shutter shot distortion. So, essentially, it makes the video less shaky and is well worth the cost.

Acer slaps a price on its Iconia Tab

Acer has announced the price of its upcoming 7in Iconia Tab A100, and it’s a wallet-friendly £300. That’s a hundred notes less than the cheapest iPad 2 – good news for those of you looking for an Android tablet fix. The Tegra 2-powered tablet with 512mb RAM and 8GB memory should run Honeycomb like a champ, and with Amazon listing it for an April 20th release, we don’t have too long to wait either.

New video! HTC Incredible S review

HTC unleashed a smattering of handsets back at Mobile World Congress in Feb, one of which was the Incredible S. Despite its ruggedised-looking design, it won't be able to withstand an amphibious smack-down, but its matt black, vacuum-packed unibody will be sure to draw a few stares.

Samsung Galaxy S II upgrade rumoured

Samsung's Galaxy S II is still a long way off, which is perhaps why the company's decided to soup-up its 1GHz dual-core Cortex A9 processor. Rumours suggest a speed hike to 1.2GHz is on the cards ahead of the phone's launch later this year.
