Zhang (pictured) said that she was attracted by China Vision's wider portfolio of media assets. As well as its publishing interests, China Vision operates three satellite TV channels (Travel TV Satellite, Xinjiang Satellite and Jiangsu Satellite). The company owns the Beijing Times newspapers and is also one of the nine companies to win a 3G license in China.
China Vision took over the license of Madame Figaro this April. The magazine was previously owned by a publishing company in Guangzhou, which went bankrupt at the end of 2010.
The new Madame Figaro will be launched as a bi-weekly magazine in mid-August. The cover price will be Rmb10, less than the Rmb 20 charged by its monthly rivals.
International film celebrity Maggie Cheung will front the cover of newly launched issue, with heavy-weight luxury brands Chanel, Gucci, Prada are part of the advertisers line-up.
Zhang said that China Vision will use the Madame Figaro brand to make two movies, a TV drama and a theatre production in 2012. “In China, a lot of clients would like luxury magazines to give them an one-stop solution, not just in print but different large scale of marketing platforms,” she said.
China Vision was established in 2009 in Beijing.
Zhang worked for Trends Media Group for 15 years, and has previously helped the magazine to launch the Cosmo China TV series and Esquire movie. The company has now appointed Eason Ng, as assistant publisher.
