International digital strategy agency Red Ant has opened a new office in Shanghai's Jiashan Market. The company, with other offices in London, Dublin, Sao Paulo and Rio, will be led by Italian-born Jacopo Stecchini. Red Ant hopes to help international clients better understand the market in China.

'Buku Bergilir' meaning 'sharing books' is an experimental social participation project to encourage reading and literacy in Indonesia. The initiative, launched by TCP-TBWA Indonesia, makes books accessible to a wider audience with an innovative 'open library' concept where participants tweet the tite and location each time a book is donated, borrowed or returned, mentioning @bukubergilir.

According to Yahoo's latest annual Net Index study, mobile internet usage on feature phones under US$200 is on the rise in Southeast Asia. Nokia is the current leader in the region, followed by smartphone competitors Samsung, Sony Ericsson and Motorola. Interestingly, home is the most common mobile internet access point.

OMD Australia has appointed Paul Gilbert as national director of its social media specialist group OMD Word. Gilbert has 11 years experience and joins from social media start-up We Manage Social. He is known for successfully managing and developing digital media teams and creating unique content to ensure clients leverage their brands across all channels.

Hyatt has handed its global digital media account to PHD following a competitive pitch. The agency will be responsible for search engine marketing and optimisation and social and display media. The account will be lead out of the US with a focus in Asia. Hyatt currently has 21 properties in China with plans for a further nine on the Mainland and 30 in India.
