CAREERS: BBDO fills ECD gap with Chau and Pong

BBDO has completed its two-year hunt to replace former co-executive creative directors Paul Chan and KC Tsang, with the appointment of Rachel Chau and Angela Pong, former Euro RSCG co-executive creative directors in Hong Kong.

CAREERS: BBDO fills ECD gap with Chau and Pong

According to BBDO Asia-Pacific deputy chairman Tom Kao, the gap left by Chan and Tsang, who left the agency to set up their own shop - Chan Tsang Wong Chu and Mee Advertising Firm - took two years to fill because the agency was unable to find the right creative for the role.

During that time, head of creatives Danny Ma and Keenan Ton, led the creative department at BBDO. Ma has since left BBDO to set up his own company, while Tong quit to pursue other interests.

Euro RSCG, meanwhile, promoted Adams Chow from CD to group creative director to replace Chau and Pong. Chow, who has been with the agency for two years, has more than 10 years' experience in the industry.

BBDO's Kao said: "Chau and Pong are very famous in the creative industry. They have not only won many prizes in the past, but have also got enough experience in managing and controlling a department. I believe they will be able to boost our creative reputation in the Greater China region.

"This year, we will expand our creative department and will hire more people. We have more than 30 staff in the creative department including studio and production. The number of staff will be increased 10 to 15 per cent by the end of this year."

Chau and Pong have more than 13 years' experience at advertising agencies.

The pair began working together at Ogilvy & Mather in 1992, and have since become inseparable, working at Bates, Saatchi & Saatchi and Euro RSCG Partnership as a team. During their 11-year relationship, they have developed and created advertising for American Express, Unilever, Hongkong Bank, Mazda Motor, AIA and Citibank.
