7-Eleven Malaysia social campaign to become 'crazy frenzy'

KUALA LUMPUR – A 7-Eleven Malaysia social media campaign is set to become a ‘crazy frenzy’ after a campaign teaser garnered 60,000 new fans on the store chain’s Facebook page.

The ‘What’s the big deal’ five-week campaign is a social real-time game show that allows fans of 7-Eleven Malaysia's Facebook page to purchase heavily discounted gadgets.

The real-time game takes place each week and features a video of the gameshow host placing selected items into a basket at 7-Eleven.

Players have to remember the items and submit their answers as quickly and accurately as possible. The top players get to purchase gadgets, such as an Apple iPod Touch or a Sony PSP, for either US$2 or US$4.

To be able to participate in the game, players must have made a minimum purchase of weekly featured items during a five-day purchase period.

A teaser of the campaign has already seen 60,000 new fans on the 7-Eleven Facebook page. It follows in the success of 7-Eleven Malaysia’s ‘Price 4 prize’ campaign last year, which saw 135,000 new fans flock to its Facebook page.

Janet Teo, chief executive of Next Digital Malaysia, said creating great content on social and traditional platforms is a key focus for the agency.

She said, “The ‘Prize 4 price’ campaign showed us how important this was when working in conjunction with optimised media placements and on-ground activation. 'What’s the big deal' builds on what we’ve learnt and is already turning into a crazy frenzy.”
