Vodafone moves Aussie account to global agency

SYDNEY: The Australian arm of mobile phone titan Vodafone has finally fallen into line with international operations and appointed global partner J. Walter Thompson to its local business.

Vodafone moves Aussie account to global agency

The estimated A$15 million (US$9.9 million) worth of billings were previously with Lowe Hunt Sydney.

JWT has handled the Vodafone account internationally for the past year.

Vodafone Australia managing director Grahame Maher said the local shift to JWT was in line with Vodafone's moves to create greater brand consistency.

"As the leading global mobile company we are maximising our global brand, products and services to shape the future for our customers," Maher said.

"Our goal is to offer a consistent, rewarding customer experience so it makes sense for us to work with the group's global agency."

Maher said no other marketing partnerships would change in the short term. He indicated that JWT's appointment was also part of a move to push Vodafone into new market segments. "In Australia we're growing our business in both the consumer and business segments and also in a range of hot new market opportunities" Maher said.

"To help us do this we'll continue to work with a range of agencies based on what makes most sense for us and the business."
