INDONESIA – Sony Pictures Television network Asia has launched new channels on the market’s first Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) platform, Groovia.

It launched One channel, Sony Entertainment Television (SET), AXN and AXN Beyond on the maiden IPTV service. SET is a new addition, while AXN and AXN Beyond expanded on their existing carriage on TelkomVision’s cable and satellite pay-TV platforms.

One Channel offers Indonesian viewers some of the latest Korean drama series, with selected titles premiering three to five weeks after their debut broadcast in South Korea. It also serves K-pop variety and music programmes.

One channel has already launched in Malaysia, Singapore and Cambodia, and it has maintained the number one ratings spot among high definition channels in Malaysia.

SET, meanwhile, is a female-skewing English network serving up ‘wickedly juicy TV’. The channel’s line-up includes first-run US hit drama, reality and variety shows in the genres of fashion, lifestyle, design, food, romance and celebrity gossip.

Ricky Ow, senior vice-president and general manager, networks, Asia, Sony Pictures Television, commented on the launches, “The debut of IPTV in the fast growing Indonesian pay-TV market is a milestone and we are proud to be providing some of the first channels on the new platform. The emergence of new pay-TV offerings will expand the audience and that bodes well for the industry.”

“We expect Groovia to take off well and are confident our channels will be a draw to subscribers. We look forward to furthering our excellent relationship with TelkomVision to greater success,” he added.
