SATELLITE & CABLE: Sportline goes live everyday with Star Sports

Star Sports has launched Sportline, a live half-hour sports news

programme.



Mr Manu Sawhney, managing director of ESPN Software India, said

Sportline was "one of the biggest programming initiatives for the

company".



"It has the advantage of covering more events, giving immediate results

and reports in minimum time and with expert analysis," he said.



"The objective is to offer international sports news from an Indian

perspective".



Initially launched in English six times a day, the programme is to later

air in Hindi.



Sportline will be produced in Singapore.



Separately, ESPN Star Sports (ESS) announced the promotion of Mr Vib

Sharma as senior vice-president, advertising and integrated sales.

Formerly vice-president, advertising sales at ESS, Mr Sharma succeeds Mr

Chris McDonald, who left the company at the end of September.



Mr Sharma is to assume responsibility for the advertising, sponsorship

and integrated sales divisions at ESS and manage a team of sales

personnel based in Singapore, Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Taipei and

India.
