Barry O'Brien

Chairman
Atomic 212°
Australia

Barry O'Brien is one of the most highly respected and passionate individuals in the Australian media and marketing industry. Experience and credentials aside, he is driven by an innate understanding that relationships are the lifeblood of marketing — the person with the bottomless Rolodex, whose door is always open and who always answers a phone call.

His love for the industry spans over 30 years. He co-launched and led media agencies Total Media and PHD, served as chief sales officer for Network Ten, and built Atomic 212° into Australia's largest independent media agency — now part of Publicis Groupe. Earning multiple Gold awards at Campaign’s Agency of the Year awards over the past decade, the agency's growth path has been upward for years, most recently adding revenues at a 27% clip in FY25 and a projected 22% in FY26.

O'Brien understands that the true mark of success is one's ability to give back, evidenced by him receiving the Order of Australia in 2014 for contributions to both media and charity. As Foundation Chairman of UnLtd and through decades of charity work raising millions, he demonstrates that industry leaders carry responsibility for societal contribution.

One of the architects of the Media Federation of Australia's quarterly mentoring programme for young people starting careers in media, O'Brien continues to mentor senior executives across agencies and media owners.

To Quote: His contribution to our industry is evident through his support of worthy causes, his focus on delivering successful outcomes for clients, and his dedication to mentoring young professionals… Countless executives across both the agency and media sectors have benefited from his guidance.” - Brian Gallagher, commercial director at Nine
