Newell to depart Time

SYDNEY - Bernie Newell (pictured), Time magazine's regional director for Australia and New Zealand, is due to step down from his role in April.

According to a statement from Time & Fortune International president Richard Evans, Newell will take a sabbatical period before “embarking on a new stage in his career”.

It is not clear at this stage who will replace Newell in Sydney. However, Evans noted that the advertising sales team for Australia and New Zealand would continue to function as per usual in the interim.

Evans added that Newell would be “sorely missed” by the Time International network.

During his career with the publisher, Newel played an important role in developing Time South Pacific, which he presided over during the launch of Time Style & Design and Time.com.

Newell was unavailable for comment on his planned departure.
