MEC tipped to win Sony regional brief

ASIA-PACIFIC - Sony Electronics is believed to be in advanced negotiations with MEC over its regional media business, after a final round of pitching against OMD.

MEC tipped to win Sony regional brief
While MEC representatives declined to comment, other sources involved in the review, which included Universal McCann and Zenith Optimedia, point to MEC as being in pole position for the US$150 million business.

The pitch, which began in July this year, is expected to conclude shortly. Current incumbent Starcom will relinquish its hold by 31 December, after consolidating Samsung’s global media (Media, 15 November).

Meanwhile, it is also thought that Universal McCann has secured the Sony Pictures media buying and planning business in Asia. While Sony Pictures was initially a component of the overall Sony pitch, it opted out of the process earlier this year. Universal already handles the business in the US and Australia.
